چکیده

mean concentration of 0.63 mmol/L, is a powerful acute phase reactant as it changes dramatically during vascular injury and inflammatory processes5. Albumin acts as a buffering agent for endogenous or exogenous toxic molecules due to its various ligands binding ability4,5. The biochemical mechanisms modifying the amino-terminal region of albumin during ischemia are unclear, but reperfusion after an ischemic event may damage serum albumin as much as, if not more than, ischemia itself 6,7. Accumulating evidence support that IMA is also produced in the clinical setting of ischemia-reperfusion conditions with excessive oxidative stress state, like those observed in thrombolytic therapy, coronary intervention and open-heart surgery8,9.

A New Biochemical Marker in Diagnosis of Acute Rheumatic Fever: Ischemia Modified Albumin

Introduction: Ischemia modified albumin (IMA), as measured using the albumin cobalt binding test, is currently the most promising biomarker for early detection of cardiac ischemia. The purpose of this study was to assess the role of IMA in diagnosis of acute rheumatic fever (ARF) and also to evaluate the IMA levels in children with chronic rheumatic and congenital valve diseases. Methods: The s...

Improved specificity of serum albumin determination and estimation of "acute phase reactants" by use of the bromcresol green reaction.

The reaction of serum samples with bromcresol green proceeds in two steps. Albumin is responsible for the faster (less than 1 min) reaction; the slower (30-min) reaction is a measure of "acute phase reactant(s)" in serum. Serum is simply mixed with bromcresol green reagent and the absorbance is measured twice, immediately and at 60 min. Albumin concentrations, determined from the absorbance at ...

Ischemia-Modified Albumin: Its Diagnostic Implications and Shortfalls

Patients presenting with chief complaint of chest pain or other signs suggestive of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) in hospital is often time-consuming, expensive and problematic to arrive to the definitive diagnosis for the cause of chest pain. Recent research has found that ischemia-modified albumin (IscMA) is an ideal biomarker for ischemia. It is highly sensitive and detectable in the early p...

Ischemia-Modified Albumin as a Marker of Acute Coronary Syndrome: The Case for Revising the Concept of “N-Terminal Modification” to “Fatty Acid Occupation” of Albumin

Ischemia-modified albumin (IMA) is assumed "N-terminal modified" albumin which is generated immediately following myocardial ischemia. The diagnosis of IMA is based on reduced cobalt binding affinity to albumin which is attributed mainly to incapability of cobalt to bind at albumin's modified N-terminus. Although the albumin cobalt binding test was accepted as a potentially powerful marker for ...

ultra-fi ltration assay in early diagnosis of acute coronary syndrome

INTRODUCTION Patients with acute chest pain remain a great diagnostic challenge to emergency physicians. It is estimated that 30% of patients presenting with chest pain will be diagnosed with an acute coronary syndrome. [1] However, none of the traditional clinical data, 12-lead ECG, biochemical markers of necrosis, or imaging techniques can be considered a true gold standard for the diagnosis ...
